#148 DIY Light Shades

Remember me? Finally back up & running after a ridiculous stretch of computer problems.
Whoever it is out there with a little voodoo collection consisting of the majority of my electrics?
Thanks for easing up.
I have certainly realised that a back up plan is required! In the meantime I will be keeping my fingers crossed that I've used up all my technological bad luck for a long long time...

Lets get back to the good stuff shall we!?

These fabulous rustic chic light shades are via a very easy to follow diy tutorial on Project Wedding.
Even though I didn't get around to making these before our wedding I will definitely still see they turn out & if I am happy with the result, hopefully I can convince one of my lovely brides to let me work them into their big day! I'm also interested to see how they could be adapted to be a candle/tea light candle holder.

Speaking of tea light candles, here's a few that would look gorgeous as decor for a rustic event or as features for an event with neutral tones.

I adore silver birch & actually, just any kind of birch really? It brings such a stunning aesthetic to both event decor & home interiors without being overbearing.

It's good to be back!

#146 Porcelain Fortune Cookies

A bit of fortune cookie & chopstick action went down at our wedding. I will eventually share more of those details someday soon but I'm waiting on some exciting happenings first.
In the meantime, how deliciously gorgeous are these porcelain fortune cookies from Yoga Goat!

Lovely decorations & brilliant favour inspiration.
How cute is the tree decoration cookie idea? I love the matte finish & while I still like the gloss finish as pictured for the chopstick rests (chopsticks via pacific merchantile) I would much prefer the matte finish on those as well. There's something about white matte porcelain that just gets me, every single time.
Each one is hand sculpted & arrives packaged in a mini chinese takeout box. They are very durable & can even be washed in the dishwasher if they get a little dusty over time.

Even though clearly I came across these a little late to use for our wedding, I'm definitely keen to have some simply as home decor &/or tree decorations!

#138 Centrepieces - Flowers in Vintage Bottles

I think I've mentioned before that when I was growing up, our house backed on to state forest, during the gold rush is was a very busy area & the forest was filled with old mine shafts as well as things (mostly 'rubbish') left behind by the miners.
Among these discarded objects the most common things to find where old cans & bottles.
It was rubbish really, but it fascinated me. Mostly because it was such a tangible reminder of those people that came in such numbers, chasing a dream.
As a child there was something very surreal & magical feeling about the traces they left.

I still love vintage bottles & I adore vintage bottles used as vases, especially as centrepieces.
Here's a few pretty-full examples!

I think there's something especially lovely & elegant looking about the simplicity of using only white blooms.
Gorgeous as home decor as well obviously!

#125 Doily Decor

Yesterday got me thinking. Uh oh? Yes, uh oh is probably right, because what I was thinking is that it's been a while since I had a good doily fix.
What is it with me & doilies?
Am I being selfish & indulgent by basking in my love for them? Well, yes.
Have I made it my mission in life to sway people in their hatred for them? Certainly.
Seriously, how could you resist when I bring you photos like these...

Convert yet? Almost? Don't worry lovelies, I won't give up...
How gorgeous is that slightly different take on the bunting using just the little pieces? I'm going to have a go at making some of that for sure. I also think that table runner is one of the best I have seen, the photography is pretty perfect too!

Well. That was enjoyable. For me anyway! Never mind though, I'll go back to suppressing my doily lust now...

#102 Doors

Weddings are amazing. Stating the obvious. Right?
Weddings are also hard work, stressful at times & involve a lot of heightened emotions. Not just your own emotions but of those around you.
I absolutely loved planning our wedding, but there were times when trying to find the things I wanted or in less inspired moments just plain anything that wasn't cookie 'this-is-the-kind-of-weddingness-that-every-wedding-should-be' cutter felt ridiculously hard.
I'm thankful for that frustration though, because it led to a lot of late nights & a lot of hard work.
The discovery of so many amazing artists, suppliers & service providers.
And most importantly, to our wedding being so fun, so meaningful, & so us.

I think there's a very fake representation of 'us' within the wedding industry.
It goes a bit like this.
"Here at blah-blah weddings, we're all about making YOUR wedding day all about YOU, making it PERSONAL & THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE!!! That's why we offer you OPTIONS!!!
Now, you can choose from white, ivory, cream, off white OR white with stick on plastic diamonds.
Each option will ONLY cost you your yearly wage, except the bedazzled option which will cost you your home deposit. But you only get married ONCE after all, & you don't want to REGRET anything & it's important you make it all about YOU!!!"
And suddenly even though you don't like any of the options in the slightest, the price tags are making you feel woozy & you're quite worried about the welfare of the hot glue gun equipped child somewhere in the 3rd world... You start feeling defeated.  Is this really the choice??? Is this really YOU?
No thank you.

Have the confidence to trust in choices that reflect the truths of who you both are,  & not who you are seemingly expected to become for that one day. Your guests - the people you love, will appreciate it. I promise.

I was very relaxed on the day. I think this was surprising for a lot of people that had seen me planning, but that was the point. The more work you put in beforehand, the easier it is to relax when you take your hands of the reins.
I was so incredibly happy with how everything came together - exactly as it had in my head. Which is a beautiful thing to be able to say!
If I were to change anything, there's only really one thing that it would come down to, & that would have been to have a coordinator on the day.
The few things that didn't quite work as well as I had hoped - & this is certainly not anything extreme! - would have all been very easily solved if there had been someone to take care of them. I identified them at the time but I wasn't willing to swap from blissed out to get things done mode, which was definitely a right decision! Little things like Mr N arriving a tiny bit early & seeing that things weren't as they should be & hustling staff to fix it. Not all the guests making it over to the photo booth I had set up - little things, but things that had there been someone there organising it could have all been taken care of in a snap.

I knew even as the preparations for our own nuptials came to an end that the passion that all this researching & planning had stirred in me, wasn't going to have been magically evaporated the morning after.
That the privilege of helping someone else through the process would be momentous.
That to be able to say to someone 'of course they aren't your only options, what do you actually want? I'll take care of it.' would be so rewarding.
To be able to help make that happen so that the time leading up to their wedding, just as much as the day itself, would be as joyous & as fun as it could possibly be.
That during the times when planning a wedding felt lonely (& trust me when i say that if you don't have any of those times you are exceptionally lucky) that I could be there even just to say' you know what? I understand. It's sucky, but it's also totally normal. Want to talk about it? Or centerpieces?'
It is a wonderful thing to have this opportunity to celebrate - in whatever way you choose- your love for one another & your commitment, among those you love & who love you most.

The fact that it should be about you & not an industry shouldn't even need mentioning.

Sometimes it's undeniable that if you put things out there, doors will start to open.
My hallway is looking pretty exciting right now, these are some good lookin' doors!
Feeling very excited.... very blessed...
A huge thank you to the gorgeous people behind those doors, who are inviting me into their lives to be a small part of one of the most special moments imaginable.

I am just so honoured.

#101 Step One - Wait

And now for a bit of waiting it would seem...
It's hardly a secret but I'm certainly not the most patient person  in the world!
Hopefully it's all worth it.
Ahhh the mystery! Can you stand it!? hehe

I've decided I haven't had enough yet...
I'm not willing to let all the delicious wedding-y knowledge in my head get shoved aside to make space for 'other' things.
You know what this means right?
No, I'm not getting divorced & no, I'm not jumping straight into planning a vow renewal for a year from now.
It means lovely ladies, & possibly gents, that I have to find someone else who will let me plan theirs.

Putting it out there...

C x

p.s Just so you know, it is actually really hard trying to hold off publishing any more photos until we get the professional shots... so many gorgeous photos, our friends are obviously uber talented.
But still, I feel like I'm keeping secrets from you?

#42 A Horse and Controversy...

Hi there! Remember me?

Whilst it would appear to most that I had fallen off the proverbial horse of blogging, ok ok - be apparent to most that I had taken a tumble - I really do have quite a legitimate excuse.

It is a tale of spur of the moment decisions, 3 cities, 1 dressmaker most exceptional, many cuppas - wines - & over indulgence in all things that fatten, news of the elating/devastating variety, & much loved up-ness from those whose hugs are too often too too far away...

Before the whirlwind that has enveloped me this last while, I had a Wedding (& everything else) To Do List about as long as your arm. Actually, make that my arm.
Now that same To Do List is about as long as the arm of the BFG. (High 5 to you if you get the reference?)
The said list included, somewhere among the reams, a bit more effort on my part in getting around to posting on here with some kind of regularity.
BUT. I was also thinking (dangerous to be sure!), 'Why?'
Is there any point in this blog? It hasn't saved my nearest & dearest from wedding talk nearly as much as I hoped it would, It feels mighty self indulgent, & i was also starting to wonder if it was a little cuckoo to be writing to myself?
Then while away, one of my delicious bridesmaids told me that she had seen another lovely friend recently, who I haven't caught up with for quite a horrible length of time.
This friend told my BM that although she hates weddings- or more specifically all the kitsch that come with them, she has been enjoying reading these pages of ramble & that she thinks I will have a beautiful wedding & will BM please take lots of photos to show her.
CUE WARM FUZZY FEELING! Bless her socks & silver (pearly white) jewelery ;)

Even though I have what feels like a thousand exciting things to update on, it would seem that oddly enough, this warm fuzzy feeling has manifested in me a desire to sabotage myself & this page & quite possibly ostracize me...

I LOVE DOILIES.

There. I've said it. It's out there.
I'm a loud & proud doily lover.
Please don't judge me?

Sanity from now on.
Mostly...
It's good to be home!
